Mission in Motion: The Power of Prayer

At Love INC, prayer isn’t something we add on—it’s at the very center of who we are.

Every day, staff and volunteers are praying with and for one another, for the people we serve, and for the situations that feel too heavy to carry alone. And time and again, we are reminded that God is present, listening, and at work.

Recently, one of our volunteers shared that she would need to miss her upcoming shift due to an emergency heart appointment. The following week, she returned with difficult news—she had been diagnosed with what doctors called “Broken Heart Syndrome” and was facing the possibility of needing a pacemaker. She was afraid and discouraged. A staff member asked if they could pray with her, placing a hand over her heart and asking Jesus to bring healing and restoration. The following week, she returned again, but this time with a very different report. After further evaluation, doctors determined she no longer needed a pacemaker. The diagnosis had changed, and she was able to come off her heart medication. Her joy had returned. Praise God!

In another situation, a volunteer asked for prayer for her daughter, who was preparing to deliver twin girls while facing incredibly difficult circumstances—housing instability, lack of support, and an unsafe relationship. The need was overwhelming. As volunteers and staff began to pray, something began to unfold. People felt prompted to step in with some providing essential items for the babies and others helping connect her to broader support systems. Soon, a network of staff, volunteers, church partners, and community organizations came alongside this young mother. Today, she and her daughters are safe, supported, and doing well. What began as a prayer request became a picture of what can happen when prayer and community come together.

We also see the impact of prayer in quieter, more personal moments. One young man reached out for assistance and, during his initial interactions with volunteers, declined multiple invitations to pray. He wasn’t dismissive, just not ready. When he later came in for his appointment, he was welcomed and served with what he needed. At the end of his visit, a volunteer gently asked again if there was anything he would like prayer for. This time, he said yes. After they prayed together, he asked if he could have a Bible. Sometimes transformation doesn’t happen all at once. Sometimes it begins with a simple moment of openness.

These moments are not isolated.

For many who walk through the New Hope program, prayer becomes a steady source of encouragement week after week. It’s not uncommon to hear graduates share that the weekly prayer calls they received were the highlight of their week—a reminder that they were not alone and that someone was consistently lifting them up before the Lord.

We’ve also seen moments of healing in other ways—stories of restored health and renewed strength following prayer—reminders that God continues to work in ways both seen and unseen.

Not every prayer is answered in the way we expect. But every prayer is heard. And through it all, we are reminded that we are not the ones carrying the weight—God is.

This is Mission in Motion—when prayer isn’t just something we say, but something we live.
